We’ve all seen the Instagram videos when someone puts 12 different colors all over their face before applying their foundation and concealer. I’m sure many of you realize they are color correcting – but do you ever wonder why? how? or if you should be doing it too?
Lets start with the basics, the color wheel. When you look at a color wheel, colors that sit opposite to each other will cancel each other out. Essentially with color correcting you are using one shade to cancel out the color you want to hide. So orangey or peachy tones will cover up blue and purple hues under your eyes, and green will cancel out redness from skin issues like rosacea or acne.
Now that we know the basics, do you need to color correct? It depends. The videos I see on Instagram make me crazy because 99% of the time, they’re doing too much. It’s all about choosing the correct shades – and you don’t need THAT much product! If you have a more fair skin tone, a light peach color corrector will do wonders for your dark circles, and the deeper your skin tone is, you can use more orange-y red shades. For redness, most people can get away with covering it up with foundation or concealer – the green can come out for that one really aggressive pimple here or there.
Do you color correct? Or if you don’t, would you like a more in depth post on how to do it correctly? Let me know in the comments!
